Background

Going into 2020, Arabella Advisors grew to nine offices across the United States, and their design needs outpaced what a rotating cast of vendors could handle. They needed someone embedded in the organization who could steward the brand across every touchpoint. From internal communications, donor-facing materials, office environments, to raising the overall design literacy of the firm.

What I Did

As Arabella’s first and only in-house designer, I took ownership of the entire visual ecosystem. I applied and evolved the brand across a wide range of materials, managed and updated digital assets, created icon systems, and redesigned internal tools into interactive, navigable documents. I also created signage, wayfinding, and commissioned artwork for a new DC office, and ran quarterly design trainings to help non-designers make better visual decisions on their own.

Why It Worked

Having a single designer created consistency that outside vendors would have trouble maintaining. I knew the brand deeply, allowing me to respond quickly to urgent requests and create tighter quality control across all physical and digital locations. The trainings alone reduced unclear or misaligned design decisions by the company’s employees, and elevated their visual fluency as well.
